Dopo l'uscita di Z68 che, francamente, aggiunge poco al precedente P67, l'attenzione dei produttori si è spostata decisamente verso il nuovo chipset X79 abbinato alle nuove CPU Sandy Bidge-E.
Il chipset Intel X79 codename Patsburg-HEDT PCH insieme ai nuovi processori Sandy Bridge-E andrà a costituire la nuova piattaforma denominata Waimea Bay.
Si vocifera che la scheda madri con X79 saranno già pronte nel mese di agosto, mentre i nuovi processori Sandy Bridge-E usciranno nel mese di settembre.
