Dear Mike,
I have been reading all the talk about AMD's new name trademakrs that may end up used for the new processors. It's funny that they are described as "vaguely Greek sounding non-names" by Adamson Runst in the Enron rename report.
Being Greek myself, talking with by fellow Greek techies, we couldn't really catch our breath from laughters about these new names. Let me explain:
The ending -ton in greek means him. So you could say:
parton, and mean: take him. Now this by itself does not make it funny. What does is that usually as "him" men usually refer to their penis. So really all these names sound like (excuse my language) blowjob instructions. You can imagine what other names, sounding like AMD with true Greek meanings have been devised by Greek techies:
arpaton = grab him
rufaton (or ruphaton) = suck him
pexeton = play him (meaning ....)
gamaton = f**k him
dagaton = bite him
masaton = chew him
glipseton = lick him
I can only attest to the fact that most of us are on it all day trying to find more -ton ending expressions.
