Corsair Questions & Answers
John Beekley, VP at Corsair, gets some questions answered that Tweak3D has put together for him.
Are heat spreaders necessary? Probably not, at least under normal conditions. Can heat spreaders provide improved thermal performance? Yes, absolutely, with corresponding benefits in overclockability and reliability. And, the more cooling we can provide, the larger the magnitude of the probable benefit. And we are always looking ways to improve memory performance and reliability.
Speaking of RAM cooling, here are a couple of sneak peeks of Corsair's upcoming RAM cooling system. The new heatspreder is bonded to the DIMMs surface and has a smaller profile than we are used to seeing which allows for better airflow around the DIMMs. The overhead fan unit will also be supplied. This is a prototype you are looking at here, but the overall package that I saw had a feeling of value. It did not come off cheap or shoddy like most other solutions we have seen over the years.
