ATI HD 4870 comeback?

The new ATI Catalyst driver 8.12 should be available on December 10th and it will bring optimization for the titles that Nvidia has a right to gloat about.

We managed to find out that some of these optimizations are also going to wait for the next Catalyst 9.1 which should probably come sometime next year. The optimizations are going to influence both single board and CrossFire configurations and the only issue is the titles for which Nvidia apparently had more time to optimize than ATI.

Nvidia's GTX 260 216 currently beats ATI in Call of Duty 5, Dead Space, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2 and Left 4 Dead, and these are five titles that Nvidia likes. According to our info, the GTX 260 216, at least the overclocked one from EVGA, outperforms HD 4870 by up to 67 percent, in Dead Space at least. In Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3 the gap is much smaller, as GTX 260 216 is 22 and 10 percent faster.

All of this means that ATI will certainly be back with its HD 4870 card, but the performance increase is still unknown, as the 8.12 is still not available for beta testing, but we will get back to you as soon as we manage to get some new info.

AMD Catalyst 8.12 erhält Performancespritze AMD schwor Rache, als Nvidia eine Aktion initierte, die die Radeons in aktuellen Spielen wie Chips von vorgestern aussehen ließ. Nvidia machte sich zu Nutze, dass AMDs Treiberstab noch nicht auf die neusten Games seine Software angepasst hatte.
Mittwoch in einer Woche, am 10. Dezember, wird AMD den Catalyst 8.12 onlinestellen. Inzwischen ist bei ATI-Forum schon eine RC3-Variante frei beziehbar und Fudzilla kann mit ersten Performanceverbesserungen dienen, die man angeblich direkt von AMD bezogen habe.

Demnach sind in folgenden Spielen Leistungssteigerungen zu erwarten:

• Crysis: 2-7%
• Crysis Warhead: 2-3%
• Devil May Cry 4: 1-6%
• Far Cry 2: 5-10% (AA), 20-70% (kein AA, Crossfire)
• Fear: 2-6%
• Left 4 Dead: 2-4%
• Lost Planet Colonies: 3-10%
• Prey: 2-5%
• Stalker Clear Sky: 5-10%

In insgesamt neun Spielen dürfen sich Radeon-Besitzer auf Performancesteigerungen freuen. Allerdings wurden von den fünf Spieletiteln, die Nvidia nutzte, um AMD zu demütigen, lediglich zwei beschleunigt, und zwar Far Cry 2 und Left 4 Dead.
Die Leistungssteigerungen fallen mit 1 bis 10 Prozent recht überschaubar aus, könnten sich jedoch an der ein oder anderen Stelle wirklich bemerkbar machen.

Der Catalyst 8.12 wird zugleich der erste Catalyst sein, der die CUDA-ähnliche ATI-Stream-Technologie unterstützen wird.
Ein Download scheint angesichts dieser erfreulichen Änderungen fast schon ein Muss für Radeon-Besitzer. Alles weitere dann an dieser Stelle, wenn der finale Treiber offiziell beziehbar ist.

Nonostante sia un fruitore di Ati abbastanza fidelizzato (solo 1 nvidia nella mia vita fin'ora), devo dire che gli 8.11 non mi hanno dimostrato queste migliorie. Anzi, tanto per dirne una, sul mio pc Atitool non funziona più, se ritorno agli 8.10 sembra tornare a posto.
Speriamo che questi in arrivo siano rivisti a 360°, non solo come performance.

salvatore se stai usando ati tool 0.26 io ho lo stesso problema...

ho appena preso una sapphire hd4850 dual slot e come avvio ati tool il sistema freeza.

ho tentato di tutto ma solo quando ho beccato la versione 0.27 beta 3 è andato...non al 100% delle sue funzioni ma almeno nn devo riavviare il sistema!

attendo questi 8.12 con ansia...

la hd4850 che ho preso mi soddisfa
